Away for the weekend, Friday
I have been moving kitsch bavarian furniture in an archaic hotel room, trying to find an outlet for my phone. It is likely that the building was built before electricity was discovered (invented?).
If I had wanted to fully escape for a couple if days, I could have left my phone behind; a complete “silence your devices.”
But the issue is, I would have to deal with the unpleasant welcome of an overflowing inbox and unread texts come Monday. And that onerous accumulation would hover over at least the rest of my week.
So I am fielding incoming text communications. But I have not talked on the phone once, nor do I intend to. The haphazard & impersonal nature of text allows me to stay in my retreat, enjoying complimentary packaged coffee, strolls around town, terrible tv movies, and other “trivial” acts. Through text, I can be, still at work, in an airport, sick, overseas, & doing nothing significant. No one will know.
No calls please.
